The Organization

The Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education (CPLED) is a non-profit organization founded in 2004. In 2018, we began an exciting journey to redevelop and deliver a new innovative and experiential bar admission program in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Nova Scotia. Our mandate is to offer a best-in-class online professional education program that trains and assesses new lawyers before they enter the profession.

New lawyers require more than knowledge of the law; they must be able to think critically, solve problems, and deal with clients, lawyers, and other key stakeholders in the justice system. CPLED's legal education program focuses on developing and assessing competencies such as client relationship management, oral and written skills, ethics, and professionalism. Our organization relies on people with broad perspectives and knowledge to deliver, operate, and govern our education program.

The Role

CPLED's volunteer Board of Directors is a competency-based Board and is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Directors have the opportunity to work alongside other senior leaders from across the country. We are currently expanding our Board by one additional Director. We're interested in candidates from across Canada with diverse leadership, personal, and professional backgrounds, with specific expertise in the I.T. and Education fields.

Board Directors play a governance role in supporting the strategic vision of CPLED and serve an initial 3-year term, with a maximum 9-year commitment.

As volunteers, CPLED Board Directors commit approximately ten hours per quarter to prepare for and attend Board and Committee meetings. These are held virtually, with one annual full-day in-person Board meeting. Directors are assigned to the Committee(s) that best fit their area of expertise and interests in Audit & Finance, Education, or Governance.
