Build an Exciting Career Marketing Communications Specialist Full-time position in the Marketing Department of Diversified Business Communications About Us: Diversified Business Communications (DBC) Canada is a fast growing and dynamic event production company based in Toronto. We organize a number of trade show and conference events in multiple industries that focus on high content and attendee education. Internationally, Diversified Business Communications brings buyers and sellers together through award-winning publications and internationally acclaimed trade shows. 6 main industries: Disaster Management, Project Management, Information Technology, Savings & Investment, Healthcare, and Cultural Food. Reporting to: Marketing Communications Manager Location: Markham, Ontario Job Description: The Marketing Specialist will provide assistance to the Marketing Manager with all company-wide marketing programs and efforts. Responsibilities will include assisting in the day-to-day preparation of all marketing & promotional materials, co-ordinate some on-site promotions, track campaign measurements, account administration. Candidate must have good working knowledge of a design software program. (Adobe Illustrator or Indesign) Job Summary: TO ASSIST THE MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER IN A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES WHICH INCLUDE: 1. Consultation, research, writing, editing, general assistance with development, production and distribution of marketing promotion pieces such as: - Print Advertisements for newspaper and magazine publication - Press Releases - Collaborate with sales team/event directors to collect information to produce event/conference guide - Online banner advertisements - Gather direct mail lists - Co-ordinate marketing efforts with industry associations - Assist with direct marketing campaigns, including: - Co-ordinate approvals of budget, creative concept, copywriting, translation, distribution plans, measurements - Provide agency/vendors with input and resources to develop content - Arrange and follow up internal requirements e.g. delivery of materials from production to fulfillment company, etc. - Help to prepare internal mailing lists - Help to prepare campaign measurements Required Skills and Attributes: a) Proven written and verbal communication skills – must be able to consult with individuals, extract and crystallize multiple thoughts into short, clear messages. Must have perfect spelling (Canadian) and grammar. Knowledge of French would be a bonus. b) Organizational skills. Must be able to multi-task, juggling many different projects at once. The high pressure environment is exciting and requires a positive attitude, good time management and practical organization of workspace and materials. c) Relationship and vendor management skills. Must be able to liaise with a wide variety of people – both inside and outside the company. Must be a good listener. d) Team player. Needs to be good at developing and managing relationships, and working in a team. e) Computer skills. Must possess good working knowledge of Access database program and MS Office including, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Good working knowledge of Illustrator or InDesign is preferred. f) Be flexible. - The job covers a wide range of activities requiring great willingness and commitment. At the high level, there’s opportunity to participate in senior strategy, research and planning meetings. At the low level, there are administrative needs including handling mail, faxes, photocopying, distribution, etc. ... plus a lot of other activities in between! - Since the work is deadline driven, extra hours are sometimes required. The person should ideally have his/her own transportation and have some flexibility in work hours. g) Have strong initiative and decision making skills. Must contribute to solutions as a team player, and be able to create own task lists and act on them without constant supervision. Preferred Requirements: Education and Background: The ideal candidate will have a college or university qualification majoring in marketing and/or communications, or commensurate experience, or demonstrated potential to perform the type of work described.
